The mobile provider noted that rural areas are targeted for Ultra Capacity 5G bandwidth expansion. In Pennsylvania, this upgrade will improve performance for 2.2 million people. T-Mobile noted that nearly 1 million of these customers reside in rural areas. Louisiana was also mentioned in the announcement. The wireless provider said that once everything is up and running at Auction 108, upgrades will be made in his 92% of the state’s counties. T-Mobile also says it has obtained licenses in nearly every county in the U.S. under Action 108, so even if you’re not in an area eligible for the upgrade, you can still benefit while traveling.
5G Ultra Capacity, referred to as “5G UC,” is a notable upgrade from standard 5G. Mid-band and high-band Ultra Capacity connections operate on a 2.5 GHz frequency, and T-Mobile Extended Range 5G operates on a low-band 600 MHz frequency. Low band has the advantage of greater range, but is slower. With the introduction of new towers and 2.5 GHz spectrum, more T-Mobile customers can benefit from the faster speeds of 5G Ultra Capacity.
Of course, this all depends on whether you have a phone with 5G capabilities, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or OnePlus 12. People who don’t have a 5G-enabled device won’t notice a difference in speed. But if you’re a T-Mobile customer, this expansion could be a sign to upgrade to his 5G phone.
