GSA highlighted that at least 47 carriers in 27 countries have already launched 5G SA networks
Jordan Cox, research manager at the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), said in a recent webinar that as of the end of October, a total of 121 carriers in 55 countries and territories had invested in public 5G standalone (5G SA) networks. He said that
Cox said these investments in 5G SA include launch, testing, licensing and launch planning. Cox also noted that 5G SA deployment has been lower than expected in recent years. The analyst said that carriers investing in the 5G SA sector accounted for 20.9% of the 578 carriers known to be investing in 5G networks globally. said.
Cox said one of the main reasons for slow adoption is the high cost of deploying 5G SA. “The transition to 5G SA requires significant investment in new hardware and software,” he said. Cox said other factors slowing 5G SA adoption are interoperability and market demand, with some carriers waiting for proven use cases to emerge before investing in 5G SA networks. He added that he was waiting for it to happen.
Cox also said that at least 47 carriers in 27 countries have now launched 5G SA networks, with a total of 21 carriers currently deploying 5G SA networks and a further 49 using the technology. He also emphasized that he is planning to start. “North America and Asia are seeing the most substantial level of 5G SA launches,” he said. Cox also pointed out that the Middle East is also seeing high levels of activity regarding 5G SA deployment, primarily in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
In Europe, carriers in countries such as France, Norway and Sweden are currently planning 5G SA networks, and a carrier in Poland is in the process of evaluating and testing a 5G SA network, GSA said. “These are clear signs of 5G SA,” he said. We plan to continue growing in the coming years. ”
Commenting on the global rollout of 5G technology, Cox highlighted that GSA has identified 578 carriers in 173 countries investing in 5G. Of these, 300 carriers in 114 countries have already launched or soft-launched 5G services.
GSA added that 290 carriers have already launched or soft-launched 5G mobile services and 152 carriers have launched or soft-launched 5G FWA services.
Cox also highlighted during the webinar that as of July, 1,148 organizations were known to have deployed LTE or 5G private networks globally. Of these, 537 companies, or 44%, are using his 5G technology. GSA also pointed out that 68 of the organizations using 5G are known to be using his 5G SA network.
Cox also said that GSA is aware of at least 2,005 announced devices supporting 5G SA as of October 2023, representing a 192% increase from the end of 2021. 1,703 of these devices are already on the market, an increase of 232% from the end of 2021.
As of October 2023, phones will account for more than 63% of commercial 5G SA devices, Cox added.
