Gogo’s business aviation in-flight 5G program passes another milestone as the Avance LX5 receives certification and component manufacturer approval from the FAA.
Gogo President Sergio Aguirre said: “With formal approval from the FAA to produce and manufacture the AVANCE LX5 line replaceable units, we reaffirm our commitment to Gogo 5G as we move towards launch date. , we built LX5 on the AVANCE platform as a small, single-box option to make Gogo 5G installation even easier for our customers.”
Article 1 Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for the in-flight 5G system was completed on a Citation Excel aircraft by Duncan Aviation’s Engineering and Certification Services team. Gogo’s dealer network and his OEM partners aim to obtain multiple his STCs that certify the installation of Gogo Avance LX5 systems on various business aircraft models. Once the 5G chip becomes available, the STC will need to be slightly modified before a customer can start installing his LX5.
Gogo says its 5G service is expected to deliver performance that outperforms competing geostationary (GEO) satellites and air-to-ground (ATG) solutions, with average speeds of around 25 Mbps and peak speeds in the 75-80 Mbps range.
The LX5 is designed with the same form factor and the same connections as the L5 to streamline installation. Customers can pre-provision Gogo 5G today by installing a multi-band (MB13) 5G antenna and Avance L5 LRU. The L5 system will operate on the Gogo Biz 4G network until the launch of Gogo 5G, scheduled for Q3 2024. At that point, you will be eligible to receive a free his LX5 to replace your existing L5 LRU.
