Samsung is set to launch new mid-range and entry-level Android smartphones later this year, one of which is the Galaxy A16 5G, which has already received 3C certification in China, suggesting that the successor to the Galaxy A15 5G is imminent and confirming some key specifications.
Recently, the Galaxy S24 FE received BIS certification in India. Now it’s the turn of a completely different series of Galaxy smartphones, but the launch of both devices could happen around the same time. MySmartPrice has spotted a 3C listing for the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G. The Galaxy A1x lineup is almost the most affordable in the Korean giant’s catalog. The company has even cheaper smartphones under the Galaxy A0x series, the latest of which is the Galaxy A06.
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G’s 3C entry reveals some key details
The 3C certification for the Galaxy A16 5G reveals that Samsung’s next entry-level device will have a 4,860mAh battery. It’s entirely possible that the company will tout a 5,000mAh cell for the phone. Interestingly, the entry confirms that there will be two Galaxy A16 5G models with different chips for different regions, although there will be no Qualcomm hardware this time around.
The phone will reportedly use the Exynos 1330 5G (Asia or Africa) and Dimensity 6300 chips. There also seems to be a noticeable raw power difference between the two. In Geekbench, the Exynos model scored 967 points in the single-core test and 1,971 points in the multi-core test, while the Dimensity model scored 514 points and 1,464 points, respectively, in the same tests.
3C also mentions two battery variants for the Galaxy A16 5G, with the batteries having model numbers BA166ABY and EB-BA166ABE, though unfortunately the entry doesn’t provide any specific details on the potential differences between the two cells.
3C listings don’t usually reveal many technical details about new smartphones, and this one is no exception. However, in addition to confirming the battery capacity and chip, the certification suggests that the Galaxy A16 5G could be launched within the next few weeks. For reference, the company announced the Galaxy A15 5G in mid-December 2023, but all information suggests that its successor will arrive a few weeks (or months) earlier.
