Veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket. The 38-year-old Dhawan shared an emotional message on Instagram, bringing curtains down on his illustrious career. He thanked everyone who supported him during his stellar, award-winning career. “I am at a point where when I look back I see only memories and when I look forward I see only a new life. It has always been my dream to play for India and I have made it happen. I have many people to thank for that. Firstly, my family, my childhood coaches and the team I have played with for so many years. I have a new family, fame and love. But they say that to move forward you have to turn the page,” Dhawan said in a video posted on his official Instagram account.

“I announce my retirement from international and domestic cricket. It is with a sense of peace in my heart that I bid adieu to my cricketing journey. I have played a lot for my country and I am just telling myself, don’t be sad that you will not be able to play for your country again but be happy that you had the opportunity to do so,” he concluded.

Dhawan’s bat has produced runs effortlessly throughout his illustrious career and though he has represented India across all formats, ODIs have been his forte.

In the T20I format, Dhawan has played 68 times and scored 1,759 runs at an average of 27.9, including 11 fifties.
In the domestic circuit, Dhawan played 122 first-class cricket matches and scored 8,499 runs at an average of 44.26, including 25 centuries and 29 fifties.
In List A, Dhawan played 302 matches and scored an astounding 12,074 runs at an average of 43.90, his incredible statistics further accentuated by 30 centuries and 67 half-centuries.
