Also known as the “ghosts of the mountains,” snow leopards inhabit the snowy peaks of the Himalayas and are notoriously difficult to spot. They are rarely spotted and almost never photographed, but a recent sighting of a family of snow leopards in Ladakh has created some astounding news on the internet. The stunning video shows a female snow leopard and her two cubs exploring the rugged terrain of Ladakh.
This mesmerizing video shared on Instagram by Ladakh-based wildlife photographer Molup Namgail captures a rare and majestic sight of leopard cubs traversing a plateau-like terrain, soon to be joined by their mother. The video begins with one cub deftly navigating the rocky terrain, followed by its sibling, and then the elusive female snow leopard appears, completing the family of three.
“After a long break, sharing a magical moment from last winter. A mother snow leopard and her two cubs making their way towards their prey. Last winter was full of magical moments like these and we were honoured to host our incredible guests from all over the world. Sharing such amazing experiences with our valued guests is something we look forward to for years to come,” Namgail captioned the video.

A third commented: “Oh my goodness! Such beautiful snow leopards! What a sight,” while a fourth added: “Such amazing and beautiful cats.”
According to the WWF website, snow leopards are widespread across 12 Central Asian countries, living in high, mountainous areas. In India, snow leopards are found primarily in the high mountainous areas of the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
Snow leopards are solitary animals and expert predators capable of killing prey up to three times their own weight in harsh terrain. Snow leopards are rare wild animals and are highly endangered due to poaching for their skin, bones and other body parts.
