CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The infant mortality rate in the United States has increased by 3% in just one year, according to the latest available data. But overall, he still has the highest percentage of one racial group.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s report shows the latest data for 2022, which confirms an increase in infant mortality for the first time in 20 years.

Goje said there are several contributing factors, including an increase in chronic health conditions such as type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure among black women before pregnancy.

In the Carolinas, overall infant mortality rates are trending in the right direction. Death rates decreased in North Carolina and South Carolina from 2021 to 2022.
