- New RAN and core capabilities enhance 5G standalone capabilities and create new business opportunities for communications service providers (CSPs).
- Toolkit consists of new software capabilities across Massive MIMO, Advanced RAN Slicing, Time-Critical Communication, and 5G Core
- toolkit designed for Experience-based connectivity with high requirements for throughput, reliability and latency
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has launched a new software toolkit to enhance 5G standalone network capabilities and enable premium services with differentiated connectivity. This portfolio enhancement comes as demand for network capacity and performance increases due to an increase in new use cases and mobile users’ growing expectations for the quality of their 5G experience.
This toolkit is designed to be provided by communications service providers (CSPs). Use cases with high requirements for throughput, reliability, and latency At agreed performance levels. Examples of these are: Latency-free mobile cloud gaming, video conferencing, live broadcasting, remotely controlled machinery/vehicles, public safety services, and future XR applications.
5G’s high speeds, consistently low latency, and higher bandwidth are key enablers for these experience-focused use cases. However, the increasing number of sophisticated and diverse use cases places higher demands on networks to achieve differentiated performance levels. As more demanding applications emerge, alternatives to a one-size-fits-all approach to wireless connectivity must be considered.
Sibel Tombaz, Head of Product Line 5G RAN at Ericsson, said: “Ericsson is at the forefront of the world’s 5G network leadership, extending connectivity to every corner of the world. We are rebuilding connectivity and moving from ‘best effort’ mobile broadband to service level agreements. Facilitate a seamless transition to a premium experience with Our new innovative software toolkit enables customers to take advantage of advanced 5G applications through differentiated connectivity. This not only ensures excellence in on-demand services, but also drives us towards our vision of the network as a platform. ”
According to a new report from Ericsson ConsumerLab, 20% of smartphone users want differentiated 5G connectivity. These individuals value premium connectivity and are willing to pay up to an 11% premium for 5G plans that guarantee improved network performance.
Ericsson’s innovative software toolkit offers enhanced capabilities in Massive MIMO, Advanced RAN Slicing, Time-Critical Communication, and 5G Core. We support a three-pronged approach to delivering a networking platform that transforms performance into loyalty, value, and growth. Ensure superior performance of mobile broadband services. These two building blocks create network performance that is programmable on demand through network APIs.
The software toolkit provides the following key features:
- strengthened Massive MIMO A software algorithm for optimal beamforming selection based on channel-aware multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) pairing and user speed. These increase user throughput by up to 10% under heavy loads, further increasing capacity for mid-band deployments, and enabling smooth introduction of new services that require high reliability and low latency.
- RAN slicing Achieve delivery goals on a millisecond (ms) basis with automatic radio resource partitioning and intent-based automation of rate- and delay-controlled scheduling. Real-time automation enables efficient service level agreement (SLA) fulfillment.
- Consistent low latency improvements time critical communication, with uplink configuration grant and L4S (low latency, low loss, scalable throughput) for superior quality of experience even during network congestion or poor radio conditions. Improved latency up to 90ms in high load scenarios.
- Data boost upsell and L4S support 5G core This allows users to purchase boosts on top of their existing subscriptions through notifications on their devices, as well as new features to enable and monetize L4S for their selected subscription packages.
Chansoon Choi, Vice President of Network Service Differentiation and Convergence at Deutsche Telekom, said: Together with Ericsson and our partners, we have demonstrated the quality of experience benefits of consistent low latency and actively promoted the ecosystem in this space. We are preparing the next steps to benefit our customers and welcome the launch of Ericsson’s 5G Slicing and his L4S in his RAN software products. ”
Patrick Filkins, Research Manager, IoT and Telecom Network Infrastructure, IDC. “Ericsson is committed to providing communications service providers with the tools they need to efficiently target and drive new premium services with differentiated 5G connectivity RAN and core software capabilities. ’s latest batch is a much-needed shot in the arm to enable CSPs to make the 5G opportunity a reality through guaranteed service levels.”
