Ericsson has deployed 100,000 ‘Massive MIMO 5G radios’ for Bharti Airtel in 12 circles of carriers in 12 days, the Swedish networking and communications company announced on Monday.
MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) is an advanced wireless technology that creates narrowband network data capacity without requiring more spectrum. Airtel’s implementation included energy efficient radio system products and solutions for Ericsson’s 5G radio access network and his MINI-LINK (microwave) mobile transport portfolio.
“With this successful rollout, we are excited to support Airtel in delivering a superior 5G experience to customers across India,” said Nunzio Mirtillo, senior vice president and head of marketing for Southeast Asia and India. I will continue to dedicate myself to it.”
“We have over 65 million customers on our network who are now enjoying unlimited 5G data at super-fast speeds at no additional cost,” said Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel.
Airtel 5G plus service is available in districts across the country and is expected to cover the entire country by March 2024, Sekhon added.
In October 2023, the companies announced the successful testing of Ericsson’s pre-commercial Reduced Capability (RedCap) software on Airtel’s 5G network in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. Airtel said this is the first validation of RedCap in India.
