- Ericsson and Turkcell have successfully completed a trial deployment of Ericsson 5G Cloud RAN technology.
- Turkcell will be one of the first telecommunications service providers worldwide to trial the technology.
- The deployment of Ericsson’s 5G Cloud RAN technology will provide Turkcell with greater network flexibility and scalability, accelerating the rollout of next-generation services.
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Turkcell (NYSE: TKC; BIST: TCELL) today announced the successful trial of Ericsson 5G Cloud Radio Access Network (RAN) technology on Turkcell’s network to enhance connectivity and network capabilities, making Turkcell one of the first communications service providers (CSPs) globally to trial the technology.
For the trial, Ericsson provided the hardware and software and conducted demonstrations, test cases and performance evaluations. The deployment of Ericsson’s 5G Cloud RAN will give Turkcell greater flexibility and scalability, enabling it to bring innovative services to market faster.
Ericsson Cloud RAN is a cloud-native solution that virtualizes RAN functions and decouples hardware and software, providing new opportunities for CSPs looking to implement cloud-native technologies and open network architectures to extend and accelerate network efficiency and virtualization.
By adopting Cloud RAN technology, Turkcell aims to introduce new software capabilities and incorporate an open RAN approach into its Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) framework. It will also enable improved network management capabilities through rApps in both Cloud RAN and dedicated deployments. The Cloud RAN implementation is expected to provide greater flexibility and agility, and enable new capabilities through centralized deployment.
Professor Vehbi Çağrı Güngör, Turkcell Chief Network Technology Officer“As one of the first of its kind in the world, our joint 5G Cloud RAN technology trial with Ericsson contributes to strengthening Turkcell’s strategy towards cloudifying network operations. This initiative marks another step in Turkcell’s technology leadership, supporting our transition to an open RAN network strategy and enhancing the advanced connectivity experience we provide in Turkey. At Turkcell, we are committed to investing in innovative technologies to provide reliable and quality services to our customers. Our consistent investments in our long-standing partnership with Ericsson are a testament to our shared vision to support our customers and drive Turkey’s digital transformation.”
Işil Yalçin, vice president of Ericsson Middle East and Africa and head of Ericsson Turkey“The Cloud RAN trial with Turkcell strengthens our partnership and reflects our shared commitment to driving Türkiye’s digital transformation and innovation goals. Our Cloud RAN solution is designed to deliver the flexibility and performance essential for modern networks while improving overall scalability. This trial is aligned with Ericsson’s strategy to support customers as they transform their networks into platforms that enable new monetization use cases through open APIs. With this Cloud RAN trial deployment, we have demonstrated the technology’s potential to more dynamically deploy, manage and upgrade Turkcell’s network.”
The Turkcell-Ericsson partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between Ericsson and Turkcell that dates back to 1994. Recently, the two companies collaborated on exploring W-band solutions, demonstrating how the evolution of mobile backhaul can meet the growing demand for broadband services.
