Ericsson joins the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (OSA) and holds a board seat. The move is aimed at helping the vendor develop towards 6G, a move it claimed will further strengthen its commitment to the open RAN ecosystem.
OSA is a French non-profit organization that promotes open source software that organizations around the world use for research and testing, alongside what the consortium describes as building blocks for systems for various 4G/5G use cases. I am.
Ericsson said it aims to accelerate the “road to 5G development and 6G” through “new means of collaboration and innovation” with member countries, pointing to the strengthening of relevant small and medium-sized enterprises and academic ecosystems.
As part of the agreement with this organization, the vendor plans to promote open standards and interoperability between various wireless communication systems.
“This approach is a combination of Ericsson and OSA’s commitment to creating a more accessible and collaborative ecosystem that provides an opportunity for researchers, developers and industry experts to contribute and influence the future of wireless communications. This is consistent with our efforts.”
Other strategic members of OSA include Nokia Bell Labs, Orange, InterDigital, Qualcomm, AMD, and Fujitsu.
In 2023, the association signed a memorandum of understanding with the Open RAN Alliance.
