Rajant, Crossover, Sonim, and Mutuallink partnership proven at NORCAT
Achieving digital voice and high-speed data for underground mining at the face
MALVERN, Pa. (USA), March 21, 2024 (Globe Newswire) — Rajant Corporation, a pioneer in Kinetic Mesh® wireless networks, is developing technology to bring digital voice and high-speed data to underground mines. We cooperated with The published case study reflects a proof of concept at the NORCAT underground center in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Crossover Distribution, Sonim Technologies and Mutuallink have partnered with Rajant on this mining solution.
“Crossover is a great place to start,” said Darin Gibbons, executive vice president of Crossover, who grew up in the mining industry. “Rajant complements other technologies in the Crossover portfolio, such as Sonim and Mutualink. Rajant allows workers to seamlessly use their phones or wireless in the extreme environments of underground mines, replacing traditional Kinetic Mesh® systems. We were able to test and prove a cross-banding solution from VHF to VoIP phones that allows them to communicate on .
“I have worked in mines all my life and come from a family of miners in Canada,” said Darrell Gillis, Rajant Sales Director in Canada. “I know that intra-mine and ‘underground-to-surface’ communication has traditionally been accomplished using two-way radio frequencies on a single outdated ‘leaky feeder’ radiating cable network. These networks provide basic two-way wireless voice communications. However, they do not address communications at the mine face where production takes place. Crossover has integrated Rajant, Sonim, and Mutualink to form a mine-wide communications solution that improves safety, efficiency, and productivity. ”
To understand the solution, Rajant Kinetic Mesh BreadCrumbs® are placed in the drift alongside and through the existing leakage feeder system to extend coverage to the working face. Mutuallink GO KIT is installed on the surface and wired portions of Rajant wireless networks. The second port on the GO KIT connects to the VHF radio and provides wireless connectivity to the leakage feeder system. Push-to-talk functionality allows Sonin smartphones to communicate with miners from the mine face using a handheld, portable VHF radio.
