Highlighting the importance of this development, Ranjan Goswami, Senior Vice President, Customer Experience Design, Delta Airlines said:
“Our continued rollout of fast, free Wi-Fi and the in-flight experience it provides will enable us to offer new, time-sensitive services to customers traveling domestically and internationally,” Travel News reported.
Delta’s international expansion of its free WiFi service reflects the airline’s broader commitment to enhancing the travel experience. Passengers flying from the U.S. to South Africa will soon be able to enjoy complimentary in-flight WiFi, keeping them connected to the digital world throughout their trip.
However, according to Travel News, Delta has advised that the timeline for this rollout on its South African routes will depend on aircraft installation schedules. The airline warns that during the WiFi transition period, there may be some coverage gaps due to the current satellite positions. Until additional satellites are installed and aircraft are upgraded to the new satellite WiFi, some flights will continue to offer a paid WiFi experience via Intelsat.
Delta currently operates 10 weekly direct flights between the US and South Africa to both Johannesburg and Cape Town, and once fully deployed, this free WiFi service is expected to significantly improve passenger experience on these routes, enabling travelers to stay connected during long-haul flights.
By mid-2025, travelers flying Delta’s South African routes can look forward to a new era of inflight connectivity, delivering a journey that not only gets you to your destination, but keeps you connected all the way there.
