Delta Air Lines began offering free WiFi to SkyMiles members on Viasat-equipped flights between Europe and the U.S., starting with flights from Paris and Nice last month, with the service set to continue rolling out to other international flights.
Delta Air Lines plans to add the service later this month to flights to and from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy. In September, additional European countries will be added, including Iceland, Ireland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland. Israel is also due to be added in September, but service to the country has been suspended until August 31.
The airline will begin offering free Wi-Fi on flights between the U.S. and South America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) in October, followed by Hawaii, and then on to Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal by January 2025, with South Africa and trans-Pacific flights (Asia, Australia and New Zealand) expected to have the service by mid-to-late 2025.
Delta Air Lines began offering free in-flight WiFi on domestic flights to SkyMiles loyalty program members in February 2023, and the airline says that “nearly 700 aircraft have free streaming-quality connectivity,” which represents more than 90% of the airline’s domestic fleet.
“Continuing to offer fast, free Wi-Fi and the in-flight experiences it enables us to offer new, time-sensitive services to our customers whether they’re traveling domestically or internationally,” said Ranjan Goswami, the airline’s senior vice president of customer experience design.
“The scale of how we’re providing free Wi-Fi to our customers is unmatched in the airline industry and is a testament to the incredible efforts of teams across Delta’s business who navigated an incredibly complex deployment.”
