
The University of Delhi has earmarked Rs 6,771 crore for establishing a WiFi network across all campuses of the university and in the women’s hostel to be built at Mukherjee Nagar in north-west Delhi.
According to official documents, the WiFi connectivity project will cover around 90 colleges of Delhi University, including both the North and South campuses and the Dhaka hostel complex.
How will the funds be raised?
Funding for the implementation of this initiative will be raised from a loan corpus of Rs 938.33 crore secured by the university from the Higher Education Finance Authority (HEFA) in October last year. This loan was obtained to facilitate various development projects within the university.
Loan share of Rs 261.33 million from this corpus was sanctioned by HEFA for installation of WiFi network and commencement of construction work of Faculty of Technology building.

HEFA is a joint venture between Canara Bank and the Ministry of Education that provides financial support for the creation of educational infrastructure and research facilities in India’s leading educational institutions.
Delhi University has applied for a HEFA loan in 2022 to meet its infrastructure needs and expansion plans, including projects such as setting up DU’s East Delhi campus in Surajmal Vihar and opening a new university in Najafgarh. Ta. The agency has also approved proposals for five other projects to receive funding from the HEFA loan, with work expected to begin once funding is approved.
