Quant Mutual Fund, which has a six-year track record, was created after Quant Capital acquired Escorts Mutual Fund.manage INR65,000 crore worth of assets and is the 20th largest fund company in the country.
Quant MF’s investment process begins with a data model identifying stocks using a variety of quantitative factors. Our 18-member analyst team performs qualitative analysis by quantifying companies on various parameters. The shares are then presented to the fund manager and chief investment officer (CIO). Final allocation decisions are made by the fund management team, but CIO Sandeep and Tandon have veto power. Tandon has her 33 years of investment and research experience.
Most of Quant MF’s team has been working with Tandon on Quant’s brokerage and investment banking platform since before the mutual fund business was launched.
Mr. Ankit Pande, one of the Senior Money Managers, has been with Quant Global Research since 2012. The other, Vasav Sagar, has been with the fund house since its inception and joined Quant Global Research before launching the MF business. Quant MF also has a separate data analysis team that continually refines the data model.
With Quant, asset managers can select stocks from a basket suggested by the data model, but they cannot override the suggestions and exceptions are always applied as needed.
Technology and data analysis play a key role in Quant MF, which also requires regular investment.Reportedly, Tandon is approx. INRWe collect 180 billion data points spanning years of weather patterns, geopolitical events, market sentiment analysis, and more.
The average age of Quant MF’s fund management team is 36 years old (excluding Tandon, who is 54 years old).
Tandon said Quant MF’s investment approach is very different from that taken by other fund companies, making it easier to mold young people.
Tandon understands that running a fund house is also a people’s job. He said that although Quant MF is still a young company (the fund house became profitable last year), it may consider implementing policies aimed at retaining talent in the future.
Tandon adds that large organizations evolve over time, and Quant MF naturally evolves as they grow.
