detroit – Get detroit Connecting to the Internet is the goal of a joint effort between several organizations and the city.
Affordable connectivity programs offer discounted and sometimes free internet service to qualified applicants, making it accessible to everyone.
“We see connectivity as a human right,” says Connect 313 Director Vittoria Katanski.
Today, many of our daily activities, from grocery shopping and delivery to paying bills, are connected to the internet, but the internet is not accessible or affordable to everyone. there is no.
“The typical household in Detroit makes less than $40,000 a year. When you have that kind of income, deciding between paying for groceries or paying for internet becomes an important decision.” Katansky said.
Connect 313 is working to enroll as many eligible Detroiters as possible into the FCC-initiated Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).
The deadline is Wednesday, February 7th. Get at least $30 off your monthly bill and $100 towards your iPad or computer device.
Katansky said Detroit leads the nation in enrollment in ACP, with 150,000 people enrolled, including the Muhammad family, who discovered the program six months ago.
Internet service is very important to Nuri Muhammad’s family because he has a disability.
“It helps you know,” Muhammad said. “I can reach my neurologist through telemedicine. I told my doctor to do the same and accommodate me.”
The money they save goes towards other necessities like diapers for their children.
“We had the service, but if you do some quick math, you’re not saving $30 a month, about $360 a year. That’s a nice little chunk,” Muhammad said.
