Frontier Fiber was named the Best Overall Internet Service Provider in Connecticut in 2024 by CNET, a technology website that reviews consumer products and services.
Frontier Communications, with offices in Norwalk, plans to build a fiber-optic network in Connecticut in 2022, with the goal of making ultra-fast service available to 90% of its customers by 2026 through $800 million in infrastructure investments. Started expansion.
CNET experts evaluated Internet service providers in Connecticut using a methodology that included speed, pricing, customer service, and overall value.
They found that Frontier “offers low and stable prices with fast, symmetrical speeds and simple service terms that include equipment rental and unlimited data at no additional cost.” .
According to CNET, Frontier offers speeds of up to 5 Gbps (gigabits per second) starting at $155 per month. It’s fast, but not the fastest overall speed. Optimum also offers fiber internet in Connecticut with speeds up to 8 Gbps.
Frontier also has a lower-tier Fiber 500 plan with speeds up to 500 Mbps, starting at $25 per month for the first year ($60 per month thereafter).
Frontier also won against GoNetSpeed, a fiber optic provider that is aggressively expanding its operations in Connecticut.
GoNetspeed offers 500 Mbps plans starting at $40 per month, but only about 13% of Connecticut households have access to them.
According to CNET, Xfinity offers the cheapest internet in Connecticut, with service starting at $25 per month and up to 200 Mbps (megabits per second).
Cox is the third largest cable internet provider in Connecticut, offering speeds from 100 Mbps to 250 Mbps for $50 per month. However, that plan comes with a monthly data cap of 1.25 terabytes.
In its review, CNET singled out Frontier’s DSL Internet, which tends to be slow and has inconsistent reliability. The only advantage of DSL is that it is available almost everywhere.
But Frontier Fiber is different, and CNET says it recommends it over other connection types in Connecticut for its overall speed and value.
“A few years ago, we set out to become a better Internet company,” said Paul Kirchhoffer, Frontier’s senior vice president of operations. “Our products and services are now industry leading and widely available in Hartford.”
Xfinity was ranked the best cable internet in Connecticut and T-Mobile Home Internet was ranked the best wireless internet in the state.
Frontier moved its headquarters from Norwalk to Dallas last year, but maintains an office in Connecticut.
