CHENGDU, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — The 2024 China Internet Civilization Conference opened in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Wednesday.
Themed around promoting the zeitgeist and jointly promoting civility in cyberspace, the two-day event brought together representatives from the central government, local governments and major news portals, as well as heads of online social organizations and Internet companies, scholars and internet celebrities.
Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Central Propaganda Department, delivered the keynote speech at the conference.
Conference delegates believe that promoting civility in cyberspace is essential to adapt to new trends in the rapidly developing information technology, and is also an essential element in building a strong socialist culture and a strong cyber nation.
They also advocated socialism and called for further efforts to enhance positive energy in cyberspace, continuously build a positive and healthy Internet culture, and strengthen governance in cyberspace.
The conference will be co-hosted by the Central Cyberspace Affairs Committee and the Central Steering Committee for Cultural and Ethical Progress together with Sichuan provincial authorities. ■
