Today’s cell phone power outage has reportedly put some iPhones into emergency SOS mode as a result of the power outage, even if it’s not enough to prevent you from making calls from your mobile device. Several steps have been reported to restore cellular connectivity on some phones.
AT&T Updated statement from AT&T spokesperson Jim Greer as of 3:10 p.m. ET:
“We have restored wireless service to all affected customers. We offer our deepest apologies to them. Staying connected to our customers is our top priority and we want to ensure that they do not experience this in the future.” We are taking steps to ensure this does not happen again.”
How to repair iPhone if it goes into SOS mode due to network failure
Many service providers have reported outages, including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. Especially some iPhone users are affected and their device gets stuck in SOS mode and they are unable to make calls, send SMS texts or use cellular data.
The iPhone’s SOS mode is triggered when your phone loses connectivity. This means you can only send SOS calls or text messages to emergency services. However, there are some things you can do to get your smartphone back online if you are affected by an outage.
Here’s how to make calls with WiFi calling without relying on cellular service.
How to make WiFi calls on iPhone
- click “setting”
- click “Cellular”
- “Wi-Fi calling”
- switch “Wi-Fi calling on this iPhone” upon
- click “Enable Wi-Fi calling”
If you’re having trouble enabling Wi-Fi Calling:
- Make sure you have the latest iOS software updates
- If the issue persists, there may be an issue with the type of account you have. For example, prepaid plans may not work. If possible, log into your carrier’s account page and verify that your account has permission to enable her WiFi calling.
How to make WiFi calls on your Android smartphone
- click “setting”
- click “connection” or “phone”
- toggle on “Wi-Fi calling”
How to make WiFi calls on your Samsung phone
- click “phone” icon
- Tap. “More options” (3 vertical dots)
- Tap “setting”
- “”TapWi-Fi calling Then flip the switch to the right to turn on the feature.

For some people, turning on roaming allows them to make cell phone calls
You can also restore your service by switching to data roaming, but this feature may incur additional charges depending on your carrier and plan. You’ll find these settings in the same cellular area mentioned above.
Hard restart may help in some cases
Or, if your iPhone is unresponsive and you can’t turn it off and then on, you may need to force a restart. Try forcing a restart using the following steps:
- press now Release the volume up button
- press now Release the volume down button
- Press and hold. side button
- When the Apple logo appears, release the side button
