The City of Casper is exploring a Wi-Fi solution at the Ford Wyoming Center.
Tomorrow evening’s City Council meeting is expected to resolve this issue by approving a contract with Mountain West Technologies Corporation for Wi-Fi throughout the building, including the 8,000-person arena and seating bowl.
Currently, the high-speed Wi-Fi in the building is for staff only, and there is no high-speed Wi-Fi for the general public.
Tens of thousands of people visit the Ford Wyoming Center each year, and many of them want to be able to share their experiences online.
In 2020, a distributed antenna system was installed to enhance cell phone service, but it only works for AT&T customers.
According to a memo from City Manager Carter Napier, the City Council previously approved allocating funds from the FWC South Corridor Replacement Project to provide public Wi-Fi at the event center.
Mountain West Technologies is the lowest bidder and a local vendor in Casper that can provide internet service to 7,000 users at a time.
Funding for the city’s portion of the project will cost $86,493 and come from every penny of funds earmarked for Ford Wyoming Center enhancements.
The contract states that services must be completed by June 30, 2024.
