I’ve been attending C3.ai’s Transform customer event in Florida for the past two days. CEO Tom Siebel then gave the most consistent explanation I’ve ever heard of how AI will transform large enterprises. Siebel joined Oracle and in 2009 he founded Siebel Systems before launching C3.ai, so he has a unique perspective on where technology has been and where it is going. I have. He boiled it down to his three phases.

Siebel acknowledged a number of concerns that companies currently have with generative AI, including random responses, lack of traceability, lack of data management, increased cyber risk, intellectual property leaks, and hallucinations. However, he believes these will soon be solved by the so-called search augmentation generation (RAG), which allows large-scale language models to provide user interfaces, but with deterministic and traceable responses.
