TikTok users were stunned by the long list of controversial wedding rules the bride and groom imposed on their guests.
In the video, which has been viewed more than 3.5 million times and has over 228,000 likes, event planner Ivy Miller (@ivy.eventideas) lists the five things that couples she works with avoid on their special day.
Many commenters called the list of rules “draconian” and argued that they would “rather stay home” than go to a wedding with so many banned activities.
Miller revealed that the bride and groom had prevented the wedding DJ from taking song requests from guests: “If you want your music played, just go to a club,” the bride and groom allegedly suggested.
The event planner also said the bride and groom didn’t want guests to ask a photographer to take their picture “because they weren’t paying tens of thousands of dollars for random portraits,” the post read.
Instead, guests were directed to join a shared photo album on the group app, where they could crowdsource photos from the day.
Additionally, the couple didn’t allow their guests to bring a plus-one because “we didn’t want to stress or pay for strangers we’ve never met,” the post read.
Finally, Miller’s post revealed that the couple banned alcohol from their wedding because they wanted their guests to “truly remember” their celebration.
“No plus one? No alcohol? Is this a wedding?” one TikTok user questioned the list of rules.
Another person said the unusual request “seems more like a business meeting than a wedding.”
“I went to a wedding where there was no alcohol,” another commenter added.[It was] “It was the most boring wedding I’ve ever been to. Almost everyone left by 8 o’clock and most of the evening guests didn’t show up.”
“This is the whole reason people attend weddings,” a fourth person argued. “I would recommend a really small wedding so your guests don’t secretly hate you.”
But other users defended the bride and groom’s request. “It’s their wedding and their rules,” one user wrote. “You guys don’t need to go.”
Another added: “I completely agree with these rules, I applied the same rules at my own wedding and everyone was happy.”
