Berlin has the best overall 5G mobile network performance among 10 European capitals, according to a new report.
This comprehensive benchmark, conducted by network testing company MedUX, analyzed the quality and speed of 5G services in major cities across Europe.
For this report, researchers conducted network tests across 10 countries in 2023 covering more than 4,000 kilometers to assess the average consumer’s “quality of experience.”
Berlin was ranked highest with a near-perfect score of 4.69 out of 5, ahead of second place Milan. The German capital demonstrated blazingly fast 5G speeds, with typical web browsing sessions loading at less than 1,550ms, up to 25% faster than other cities. City. Berlin also received top scores for streaming reliability and play time.
Although Berlin had the advantage in terms of speed, Milan came in first in overall network consistency with 99.91% successful data sessions. Milan was closely followed by Barcelona (99.82%), and for comparison, Berlin placed him fifth overall (99.56%), making the difference between the two almost negligible.
Portugal is the country with the most widespread availability of 5G, with over 90% coverage in Porto. In terms of raw download capacity, Lisbon took his first place, with a median speed of over 537 Mbps.
The report suggests that many European cities are now ahead of London, which ranks 10th overall, in 5G capabilities.
“Speed is not the key factor; the communications industry must adapt to meet the actual needs and priorities of end users,” said Rafael González, MedUX CMO. “We look forward to seeing carriers utilize our findings as they plan, deploy, monitor and optimize their 5G networks.”
The company expects network quality to continue to improve over the coming months as new 5G SA (standalone) rollouts begin across the continent.
