Telkomsel, one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications companies, has confirmed that it will expand the coverage of its Hyper 5G network in Bali.
The news comes as Indonesia’s leaders pledge to improve digital connectivity and internet speeds across the country to ensure the country’s global leadership in digital development.
Telkomsel marketing director Derrick Heng confirmed at a press conference that the company is focusing on expanding 5G to two key areas in Bali: Denpasar city and Badung regency.
Badung Regency is home to many of Bali’s most popular tourist resorts, including Nusa Dua, Kuta, Uluwatu, Canggu, Seminyak, Legian and Jimbaran.
These two areas were chosen due to their high potential for technological development and the large number of internet users among both residents and tourists.

“Bali is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations and we want to ensure that it can enjoy a 5G experience that meets international standards,” Heng explained.
“We hope that 5G will create further development opportunities in the tourism, business and public service sectors of Bali,” he added.
The expansion plan has been driven by the rise in medium, small and micro enterprises in these parts of Bali, as well as the increased use of international roaming services due to the growing number of tourists to these parts of the province.

Telkomsel has already installed 67 5G points in Denpasar city and 136 around Badung regency. A total of 225 Hyper 5G points have been installed in South Bali alone, with more planned for the near future. Currently, stable 5G coverage is available across Kuta, Canggu, Nusa Dua and Sanur.
“We are working to ensure that this high-speed internet experience can be enjoyed equally and without interruption across Bali,” Telkomsel network director Indra Mardiatna told reporters.
Telkomsel’s focus on improving is not only on coverage, but also on affordability: in addition to its tourist SIM packages, which are very popular with short-term visitors to the island, Telkomsel is also increasing the price and size of its internet and data packages.

The Super Seru 5G package offers double the data quota of the basic plan, with prices starting from IDR 60,000 for 50GB.
Mardiatna explained that the offer is specifically designed to encourage the exploration and use of 5G technology by the people of Bali and visiting tourists.
Telkomsel confirmed that it will continue to roll out 5G coverage to more locations across Indonesia, with equal focus on industrial and residential areas, as well as priority tourist destinations identified by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, such as Lake Toba, Lombok and Labuan Bajo, the gateway to the world-famous Komodo National Park.
The expansion of 5G coverage in resort areas such as Canggu, Nusa Dua, Sanur and Kuta is also reflected by Ubud-based telco Indosat Ooredoo Hutchinson.
Indosat Ooredoo Hutchinson’s technical director, Yose Naviliant, spoke to reporters last week about the opening of the new base station in central Ubud.
Located within Ubud’s Sacred Monkey Forest, the new base station will help improve signal coverage in the arts and culture hub.
“Our tower in Monkey Forest is part of the Padangtegal Traditional Village, so the traditional village can not only strengthen the village community and tourism but also utilise the signal,” Navirianto told reporters.
Ubud was arguably the original digital nomad centre in Bali, but as areas like Uluwatu and Canggu have grown, more and more tech developers, digital entrepreneurs, remote workers and digital nomads have been moving to the coast to make the most of the work-life balance that Bali has to offer.
Co-working spaces such as Belluna and Ubud Coworking in Ubud, as well as numerous cozy cafes and coffee shops, continue to welcome many nomadic creators into their community.
