Apple not only entered 5G with the iPhone, but also entered network technology. New reports suggest that after years of research and development, Apple will be integrating its own home-grown cellular modems into some of its products for the first time, possibly as soon as next year. Why build a modem in the first place? But Mark Gurman, whose frequent inside scoops have put him at the apex of arguably the most sophisticated industrial watchdog operation in corporate history, isn’t quite sure how the job benefits him. He argues that while the M4 chip and other processors developed by Apple’s…
The Tariff Classification Committee of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to apply customs duty of 11% on the import of “4G MiFi modems and Mobile WiFi modems”. The decision was taken based on the findings of the Tariff Classification Committee. The Classification Committee concluded that “4G MiFi modems and mobile WiFi modems” should be correctly classified under Pakistan Tariff (PCT) heading 8517.6220. The decision puts an end to an earlier confusion where the Central Customs Inspection Office, Lahore, had wrongly applied customs laws on the import of “Mobile WiFi Modems”, causing severe problems for importers. The Central…

Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) was founded in 1992 as part of a lobbying effort to promote the development of Pakistan’s IT industry with the Islamabad government. In a recent press release, the association blamed the government for forcing the “burgeoning” technology industry to face ruin as authorities implemented a “censorship firewall”. The government’s actions have caused “unprecedented” operational…

Users of both platforms reported a surge in server connection problems starting at around 2pm Moscow time (11am GMT), according to monitoring websites. Russia’s Federal State for Communications and Information Technologies said the “attack” which caused “massive disruptions” to the app’s services was repelled within an hour and that services were operating normally again. Regulators blamed the outage on a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) cyber attack aimed at Russian telecommunications providers. A DDoS attack aims to overload a website with…
There is hardly any area of business that the influential Arnault family is not involved in. LVMH is their most famous company, and their vast luxury fashion empire owns Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, TAG Heuer, and more. But some of Arnault’s latest interests lie far from retail and luxury: Europe’s richest man…
