5G technology has emerged as a beacon of innovation, promising unprecedented speed, reliability, and connectivity. It will usher in a new era of digital connectivity in various sectors, including healthcare, infrastructure, and education. China is a major player in the global 5G market and is spearheading the Digital Silk Road (DSR) initiative to export this technology to the world. This has raised concerns about China’s dominance in this fast-growing sector, making it imperative to explore adaptable and scalable solutions. Open Radio Access Networks (O-RAN) have emerged as a disruptive alternative that challenges traditional approaches. O-RAN essentially “opens up the protocols…
Vodafone Idea recently said it plans to roll out 5G services using equity and debt financing within six to seven months after securing funding. Indian telecom operator Vodafone Idea said on Monday it had successfully completed a $2.16 billion follow-on public offering (FPO). The company said the FPO was 7 times oversubscribed, driven by strong demand from institutional investors across the world. The Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) allotment was 19.3 times oversubscribed, of which 82% was from overseas institutional investors, according to the company. The Non-Institutional Buyers (NIIs) allotment was also 4.5 times oversubscribed. The retail segment was fully booked.…
We love the internet. Whether it’s bidding on childhood action figures on eBay while battling insomnia, emailing the latest Taylor Swift conspiracy theory to your best friend, or simply paying the electricity bill, being online makes our lives more fun, more connected, and a whole lot easier.Unfortunately, as much as we love the internet, there are countless sneaky people out there trying to steal our personal information. Last year saw a record number of data breaches, with a 20% increase from 2022 to 2023. So if you live your life digitally (and you can’t help it, right?), you need to…
By bending beams of light through the air to make them avoid obstacles, researchers hope to help make superfast 6G data networks a reality, according to a new study. The next generation of wireless communication, 6G, will likely use terahertz waves to achieve unprecedented speeds. Terahertz radiation (also known as submillimeter or far-infrared waves) lies between light waves and microwaves on the electromagnetic spectrum. With frequencies ranging from 0.1 to 10 terahertz, terahertz radiation could be the key to future high-speed wireless networks transmitting data at terabits (trillions of bits) per second.”Even if there is an obstruction that partially blocks the…
Malaysia’s ambitious plans to roll out a nationwide 5G network are facing a major obstacle as negotiations between state-run telecoms operator Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and the country’s leading private telecoms companies have stalled. Channel News Asia (CNA) report. The breakdown in talks is forcing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government to reconsider licensing a second 5G operator to provide much-needed competition in the fast-growing mobile sector, according to industry sources who spoke to CNA on condition of anonymity. Under a multi-layered settlement reached in December, Malaysia’s top five telecom operators — Maxis, Celcom Digi, U Mobile, YTL Communications and Telekom…
Philadelphia—Comcast has launched a WiFi Boost feature that allows Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile devices to achieve speeds of up to 1 Gbps when connecting to millions of new “Xfinity Mobile” hotspots. In announcing the feature, Comcast reported that approximately 90 percent of mobile data traffic on Xfinity Mobile devices is transmitted over WiFi rather than cellular. With more than 23 million WiFi hotspots now able to offer customers increased speeds through WiFi Boost, the company said Xfinity Mobile continues to provide a better experience that supports data-intensive applications over traditional cellular networks. The upgrade comes at a time…
Whether you know it or not, 5G technology shapes your world every day.Like previous 4G, the fifth generation of cellular wireless technology is enhancing high-speed internet on mobile phones. However, it also works with things like long-distance synchronous music production, electric vehicle charging and innovative mental health care, as it can reliably support many devices with low lag times and high download speeds. It is also forward compatible. This means it’s built to support technologies that are still in development or not yet exist.Business Insider 5G and Connection Playbook It is built for those who want to know what this…
Throughout its evolution, mobile communications has fundamentally focused on performance and quality of service, with sustainability being an area that is often overlooked. Operating national mobile networks requires significant amounts of energy, and the continued growth in the number of devices served by these networks will require increased energy usage to keep up with the growing demand for mobile data. Reflecting this, mobile networks, communications, and devices must contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through direct and indirect incentives that stimulate the development of new technologies with the primary goal of reducing carbon emissions. While technological innovations…
Next-generation wireless signals will likely be in the form of targeted, directional beams rather than radiated indiscriminately from base stations as they are today. However, physical interference, such as objects or people passing nearby, can still disrupt the signal, posing a literal roadblock to the implementation of ultrafast mmWave and sub-Terahertz wireless networks. But researchers from Rice and Brown Universities have shown that curved beams loaded with data can establish a link between a base station and a user, effectively avoiding intervening obstacles. In published studies, Communication EngineeringResearchers have demonstrated sub-terahertz beams that follow curved trajectories, an achievement that could…
The digital landscape is evolving rapidly, with innovations in the communications sector spearheading this transformation. One innovation that is attracting a lot of attention is 5G technology, the fifth generation standard for web networks. According to forecasts, the global 5G service market size is expected to soar from $10 billion by 2025 to $10 billion by 2026. 82.7 From $1 billion to a staggering $1 billion in 2022 919.4 It is expected to reach $1 billion by 2031, with a staggering compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 82.7% during the forecast period. The evolution of 5G services 5G represents a…
