The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released the final text of its net neutrality order, making changes that appear to eliminate the so-called “fast lane” for applications that some advocates feared would undermine net neutrality. US communications regulators adopted an order last month restoring net neutrality rules overturned by the Trump administration that would reclassify internet access as a “common carrier” service under Section 2 of the Telecommunications Act and require service providers to treat all traffic equally. But concerns have also been raised that new technologies introduced in 5G networks could create so-called “fast lanes” for some applications, allowing…

SNS Telecom & IT‘s latest research report indicates that the real-world impact of private 5G networks – which are estimated to account for $3.5 Billion in annual spending by 2027 – is becoming ever more visible, with diverse practical and tangible benefits such as productivity gains through reduced dependency on unlicenced wireless and hard-wired connections in industrial facilities, allowing workers to remotely operate cranes and mining equipment from a safer distance and significant, quantifiable cost savings enabled by 5G-connected patrol robots and image analytics in Wagyu beef production.Private LTE networks are a well-established market and have been around for more…
FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) — The City of Fond du Lac has offered free public Wi-Fi for years, and while some residents say they enjoy the service, others say they don’t find it valuable or don’t even know it exists.WiFi is available in most areas of Downtown and is free to use.The intensity varies across the city. This service uses existing infrastructure. Some residents love the service, but others don’t want it.Fond du Lac Mayor Joe Moore said the WiFi was installed to take advantage of an existing system the police department uses to write reports.”If you’re on a cellular connection,…

Verizon Business and Cummins announced they have signed an agreement to deploy Verizon’s latest Neutral Host Network products at Cummins’ Jamestown Engine Plant (JEP) in Lakewood, New York. The agreement combines a neutral host network with the Verizon private 5G network to cover different use cases of public and private networks at the JEP site. Cummins believes the network’s technical capabilities are essential to enhancing operations across the site and further improving the already best-in-class quality of the engines it produces for its customers. Cummins can use the neutral host network to connect phones and tablets to the public networks…
Four Japanese companies – Docomo, NTT, NEC, and Fujitsu – have jointly developed the first-ever 6G terminal prototype. It is said to be 500 times faster than 5G devices and can transmit data up to a distance of 330 feet. There is no existing infrastructure capable of supporting 6G technology, so it will be several years before it is widely adopted. Japanese corporate groups such as Docomo, NTT, NEC, and Fujitsu First Prototype For 6G devices. Successfully tested on April 11th. 6G will offer an astounding data transfer speed of 100 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is at least 20…
Next up: 6G6G can be five times faster than 5G. 6G is the next generation after 5G, but many technical specifications are still needed. Researchers and scientists need the infrastructure and components to make the network a reality. According to the GSMA, there is a long way to go before 6G networks become a reality. For example, it is expected that 6G will not become a mainstream network until the 2030s. The final specifications are not expected to be released until 2028.ProgressThe groundbreaking 6G antennas open up new possibilities, and the researchers outlined their findings in the IEEE Open Journal…
Arda Lisis, Chief Operating Officer, Tilson Infrastructure Alda Licis is a member of WIA’s Innovation & Technology Council. Learn more about the ITC here. With the buildout of 5G coverage well underway, there are many ideas for how to monetize these networks and unlock the value of 5G technology. One of the ways Tilson Infrastructure is achieving this is through public-private partnerships that make 5G more affordable through shared infrastructure that maximizes asset utilization and improves return on investment. In the wireless industry, the concept of sharing is well known. For decades, mobile operators have co-located antennas on towers, but…
