
AT&T has unveiled the “Sound of Silence” ad for the first-ever inclusive 5G helmet for deaf and hard of hearing soccer players.
This football helmet was created in collaboration with AT&T and Gallaudet University, a world leader in bilingual education for the deaf community.
Featuring the song “The Sound of Silence” playing in the background, the new ad offers a glimpse into how the helmet enhances on-field communication for student-athletes who use American Sign Language. The technology works by showing the coach’s play while wearing the player’s helmet through augmented reality on a digital display inside the visor.
“Last Saturday, Gallaudet Football and AT&T made history with the first-ever 5G connected helmet. The result of this collaboration is the epitome of how connectivity changes everything,” said AT&T Chief Marketing and Growth Officer. says Kellyn Kenny. “Every detail of The Sound of Silence offers a glimpse into the lives of these coaches and players, and how connectivity changed the game forever.”
The helmet was first used in NCAA Division III competition during Gallaudet’s game against Hilbert College on Oct. 7.
“We work out the same way, practice the same way and compete the same way as any other college football program,” Gallaudet University head football coach Chuck Goldstein said in a previous statement. said. “The difference between coaching a hearing team and coaching a deaf team is first and foremost communication.
