New Delhi: Bharti Airtel on Wednesday announced that it has successfully demonstrated mmWave (millimeter wave) 5G capabilities on the Airtel network in partnership with Ericsson.
Peak speeds of 4.7 Gbps were achieved during testing, demonstrating the applicability of mmWave for high network capacity requirements.
“FWA Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) supported by 5G mmWave not only helps increase speeds, but also enables us to reach a large number of users who were previously unable to connect due to lack of access to fiber optic connectivity. Randeep Singh Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer, Bharti Airtel, said in a statement.
5G highband or mmWave spectrum is a valuable resource when targeting densely populated urban areas with large numbers of mobile devices, homes, and businesses.
High bands above 24 gigahertz (GHz) offer service providers the opportunity to offer unprecedented peak rates, low latency, and high capacity.
Nunzio Miltillo, Head of Ericsson Southeast, said: “Our extensive investment in research and development has resulted in deep knowledge, experience and multiple 5G mmWave patents. “We have a leading portfolio in the field and we fully own the technology we use.” Asia, Oceania, India.
According to Ericsson’s FWA Handbook 2024 Insights, FWA connections worldwide are expected to grow from 130 million at the end of 2023 to 330 million by the end of 2029.
