Convai, the Unity and generative conversational AI software company, plans to release Project Neural Nexus later this year, a demo game showcasing Convai’s “smart” NPCs and Unity’s Muse Behavior tools.
Convai describes the game on its website as follows: “Enter the world of Neo City, a cyberpunk themed city where danger lurks around every corner. You wake up in a hotel and are chased by the police and killer robots. You have to escape alive from a crowded hotel. But you are not alone. You have the help of an AI companion who will equip you with weapons, teach you how to shoot, guide you every step of the way and help you escape. Hotel.
“Your decisions will change the storyline, but be careful. One wrong move and it’s game over.” The game is powered by Convai’s smart NPCs, who can have free conversations, make decisions, and , interact with various environmental objects, and be guided by an AI companion. Welcome to Neo City. Your survival story begins now.”

Convai has also released a trailer for the demo, where you can see the AI NPCs in action. The voices sound very flat, some of the animations look a little clunky, and the music looks a lot like the one on Cyberpunk 2077’s soundtrack. (I’m sure I’m not the only one who hears the voice of robot Todd Howard talking about Yggdrasil, right?)
(Coincidentally, Convai has documentation on how to integrate Convai into Cyberpunk 2077 through mods. I seem to be missing a video link for the guide, but even without that, I’m sure you’ll find the inspiration for Project Neural Nexus It’s pretty easy to imagine where the rations came from.)
Convai provided conversational AI that generated real-time interactions between NPCs and responses to player utterances. The company has partnered with Unity to use Muse AI tools, specifically Behavior (currently a pre-release feature), which automatically creates dynamic character interactions. The creative director of this game is Sakura rabbitIndie Unity developer.
Convai plans to ship “sample” games later this year, founder Purnendu Mukherjee said in a video update about the company, and early access sign-ups are now open.
The Project Neural Nexus announcement aligns with Unity’s own report on AI, which found that 62% of studios use AI at some point during game development. Unity announced Muse late last year and has been gradually rolling out “responsibly sourced AI tools” to developers ever since.
