The ongoing 6G rollout is already driving hiring at telcos as companies prepare for the new technology, according to a recent study by data analytics firm GlobalData.
As companies consider 6G deployments, they will seek more skilled employees with skills in wireless communications, network architecture, security, and data analysis.
GlobalData’s employment database shows that telecom industry leaders are already hiring in anticipation of 6G rollout. Currently, top companies adopting 6G include Qualcomm, Nokia, and Keysight Technologies.
Many of these companies have invested or plan to invest in 6G deployment.
Keysight Technologies has been discussing 6G and quantum investments throughout 2023, according to GlobalData’s transaction database. Qualcomm also discussed its continued investment in advances in OFDMA (orthogonal frequency division multiple access)-based technology and products. This includes both 5G and 6G products.
Shella Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, said telcos and tech companies are looking to simplify and automate radio access networks for 5G and eventually 6G, and that machine learning and AI will help improve 6G wireless systems. He said he is also investigating what kind of impact this may have.

“Companies are creating digital twins to support 6G research and exploration of machine learning and data-driven algorithms. They are also creating digital twins to support 6G research and exploration of machine learning and data-driven algorithms. They are also creating digital twins to support 6G research and exploration of machine learning and data-driven algorithms. We focus on developing wireless protocol algorithm designs using theoretical analysis, link-level or system-level simulations for 5G/6G and beyond,” said Sripradha.
Sriprada also provided insight into what kind of roles these companies are looking for.
“For jobs such as network management, testing and software development, companies are likely to hire experts in areas such as infrastructure development, equipment, network operations and spectrum services,” Sripradha said.
Sriprada concluded that strategic adoption will be a key determinant of enterprise success in the eventual deployment of 6G.
“Enterprises are actively seeking talent to drive advancements in 6G technology, and the future of connectivity depends on the expertise and innovation of these skilled individuals,” Sripradha said.
