Ethereum scaling solution Starknet is working with blockchain network Celestia to improve data availability for layer 3 chains within the Starknet ecosystem.
Starknet developers plan to use ‘Blobstream’, a key component of the Celestia ecosystem. Blobstream acts as a data availability (DA) layer, safely storing large amounts of data off-chain while providing verifiable evidence of its existence.
This collaboration allows Celestia to be used in off-chain scaling solutions on Starknet, aiming to minimize transaction costs. This includes Starknet developers porting his Celestia Blobstream to Cairo, Starknet’s primary programming language, to support the development of layer 3 app chains. Such Layer 3 on Starknet is currently in the development stage.
“Establishing a high-throughput app chain on Starknet using Celestia as a modular DA is an innovative combination,” said Starknet.
Celestia data availability
Celestia is the first project to implement “data availability sampling,” which allows validators on a scaling network to sample critical parts of the data for availability validation, increasing efficiency compared to full data validation. and throughput is improved.
Layer 2 projects such as Manta Pacific, Aevo, and ZKFair are already using Celestia DA to develop Validium and scaling solutions that combine zero-knowledge proofs and data availability. Polygon and Arbitrum have also integrated Celestia into their layer 2 development kits.
Currently, Starknet aims to use Celestia to create a Layer 3 chain instead of Layer 2 within the Starknet ecosystem.
Previously, Starknet was in discussions with Celestia competitor Avail to integrate the Starknet app chain’s data availability solution with Madara, a customizable sequencer.
