Singtel and SKT will also put together white papers on advancements in areas such as virtualization, slicing and network evolution that will help operators harness the capabilities of 5G and prepare for 6G.
“SKT and SingTel’s cooperation marks an important step in shaping the future of the global telecommunications industry,” said Kang Jeong-ryul, head of ICT infrastructure at SK Telecom.
“By combining the strengths of both companies, we aim to achieve great advances in next-generation communications technologies, including 6G and AI infrastructure.”
Partners collaborate to develop differentiated and innovative solutions that improve network capabilities.
This includes edge AI infrastructure, which offloads cloud-intensive computational loads through edge computing and combines AI solutions to perform AI inference.
The initiative is expected to improve connectivity, provide unique AI service offerings to customers and help operators restore services faster.
“As a global leader in 5G technology, we are eager to take advantage of the myriad capabilities this technology has to offer, particularly in the areas of network slicing and embedding AI,” said Anna Yip, deputy CEO and CEO of business development at Singapore Press Agency.
“At SKT, we aim to not only enhance customer experience, but also drive industry innovation and prepare for the evolution to 6G.”
SKT and Singtel are also founding members of the Global Telecom AI Alliance, along with Deutsche Telekom, e& and SoftBank Corp.
The group aims to accelerate the AI transformation of its existing telecommunications business and develop new growth drivers through new AI-powered business models.
In June, the members signed a joint venture agreement to jointly develop and launch multilingual large-scale language models (LLMs) specifically tailored to the needs of telecom operators.
