- Telekom and partners also offer attractive gaming packages
- DI1ARAA and BigSpin are the first companies to test new 5G+ gaming options
- Equal eSports Initiative: Highlighting the importance of non-male role models in eSports
Deutsche Telekom and ALSO, together with technology partner Ludium Lab, which specializes in cloud gaming, announced plans for an offer for the gaming scene today at Gamescom in Cologne. 5G+ Gaming will ensure smooth, lag-free mobile gaming in the future. The offer will be available to pre-order from autumn on the MeinMagenta app via Magenta Moments.
Twitch streamer and TikTok star DI1ARAA and SK Gaming pro BigSpin have already demonstrated what the solution can achieve at Gamescom in Cologne. The difference was clear in a game of Fortnite. DI1ARAA used the 5G+ Gaming option to run away from opponents or take them down with targeted attacks, while BigSpin, who competed without the added features of 5G, struggled. “The game ran perfectly – no lags or stutters,” said an enthralled DI1ARAA. “Thanks to 5G+ Gaming, I was able to effortlessly control my avatar during the game and always stay one step ahead of my opponents.”
“It was a really tough match,” Bigspin admitted. “I usually do well in these matches, but without the added functionality of 5G I just couldn’t react as quickly.”
What customers can expect from 5G+ gaming
Deutsche Telekom, in collaboration with ALSO and Ludium, has prepared an attractive package for cloud gamers. Gamers can play the top 100 games for free for six months. All in real time and with a very stable connection. Popular games such as Fortnite, PUBG and 9 Years of Shadows are included in this plan. The cloud platform can be accessed through the Android app “Sora Stream”. Customers with Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be the first to benefit from this. Samsung Electronics has already technically equipped this smartphone model to implement all the features of 5G+ Gaming. The next step is to add more devices on which this new option will work. 5G+ Gaming is the world’s first consumer plan based on network slicing, which Samsung Electronics is implementing together with telecommunications providers.
To use the free 5G+ gaming option, you need to book the latest version of the MagentaMobil tariff plan. Gaming packages are generally available for booking by all customers. Users of iOS devices can access the platform via the web browser of the Ludium platform Sora Stream.
Innovative 5G technology makes gaming even more fun
The new gaming solution will be implemented via Deutsche Telekom’s 5G standalone network. A distinctive feature of this network is the ability to use certain network features. This mainly involves “network slicing”, where the network is divided into virtual slices specialized for certain characteristics. For cloud gaming, this is a low response time. Another feature used for 5G+ gaming is optimizing the available data rates to ensure a smooth image by ensuring low response times even in congested cells. Deutsche Telekom is the first network operator to integrate these intelligent additional features into its 5G network and offer them to its customers. As soon as a customer starts a game on the Sora Stream platform, they will be informed if they are playing in 5G+ gaming mode.
Equal eSports Panel: The Importance of Non-Male Role Models in eSports
Following the 5G+ Gaming presentation, the Equal eSports panel “From Dream to Reality: The Importance of Non-Male Role Models” took place. Antje Hundhausen, VP Brand Experience at Deutsche Telekom and patron of the initiative, highlighted the importance of visible role models in eSports. Together with DI1ARAA and SK Avarosa female eSports athlete Luna “Zaby” Rockman, they discussed the challenges and opportunities of non-male role models in eSports. “I am very happy to have the unique opportunity to speak on a panel with DI1ARAA and Luna “Zaby” Rockman. DI1ARAA is a powerful voice for young people and it is great to see the Equal eSports initiative strengthened by their support. As a successful eSports athlete and member of SK Avarosa, Luna brings valuable practical insights that highlight the importance of diverse role models who encourage and inspire. It is exciting that together we can develop concrete measures to promote diversity and inclusion in eSports and break down gender barriers. “
DI1ARAA added: “It’s so important for young people in esports to have role models they can look up to. Being on this panel and talking about my experience means a lot to me because I want to show that there’s room for everyone to chase their dreams, regardless of gender.”
As part of Telecom’s Equal eSports initiative, Equal Esports Cup is currently running, with the finals taking place at Gamescom on August 24th and 25th. The Equal eSports Cup is the largest League of Legends tournament series for female and non-binary players in the EMEA region, taking place in front of a large trade fair crowd and broadcasting live on Twitch.
