“We are pleased to be the first Indian airline to pioneer offering free Wi-Fi in all cabins on our international flights,” Rajawat added. “We are confident that our customers will appreciate this added value that is aimed at making their Vistara journey more convenient, productive and seamless.”
The internet connectivity plans offered on Vistara international flights will provide free chat facility to Club Vistara members in any class and cabin throughout the flight. Other members will be charged Rs 372.74 plus GST to chat on messaging apps like Whatsapp, Facebook Messengers etc with unlimited data. For browsing the internet on board these flights, the airline has set a rate of Rs 1,577.54 plus GST, which will provide embedded audio and video streaming for social media, web and other content. For Rs 2,707.04 plus GST, you will get unlimited data with all streaming protocols enabled, the company said.
“Vistara’s international flights operated by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Airbus A321neos will offer advanced wireless connectivity powered by Panasonic avionics, enabling seamless internet access on Wi-Fi enabled devices even at altitudes of 35,000 feet, allowing passengers to stay connected and easily access emails, information and social media,” the company said.
Vistara’s parent company, Singapore Airlines, also offers free Wi-Fi to members of its loyalty program, KrisFlyer.
Airlines have been offering in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity for over a decade. Most airlines charge for the service, but some, such as US low-cost airline JetBlue, have been offering it for free since 2013, with unlimited data and high-speed connectivity for the duration of the flight. Many other international airlines, such as Philippine Airlines, Norwegian Air, China Eastern, and Air New Zealand, also offer free Wi-Fi, but some have data limits, usually offering more data to business and first class passengers. Many other airlines link the service to their loyalty programs. Airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Delta (as well as the aforementioned Singapore Airlines) offer the service free of charge to their frequent flyer members. Some of these airlines have specific conditions for Wi-Fi use for economy class passengers, and most only offer it free to business and first class passengers.
