The number of telephone subscribers in India rose to 11.99 billion from 11.72 billion at the end of March last year, registering an annual growth rate of 2.3 percent.

New Delhi: India’s internet subscribers increased by 7.3 crore and broadband subscribers by 7.8 crore in a year, while the number of telephone subscribers reached 1,19.9 crore, the government said on Tuesday.
The total number of internet subscribers is expected to grow to 954 million at the end of March this year from 881 million at the end of March 2023, indicating an annual growth rate of 8.3%. Broadband services are also maintaining an upward trend, with the number of broadband subscribers expected to grow from 846 million in March 2023 to 924 million in March 2024, according to the latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
“The significant increase in broadband subscribers to 780 million, a robust growth rate of 9.15 percent, underscores the importance of high-speed connectivity,” the telecom regulator said.
Adjusted gross revenue (AGR) will also increase from Rs 2,49,908 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 2,70,504 crore in 2023-24, at a compound annual growth rate of 8.24 per cent.
Teledensity across India increased to 85.69% in March this year from 84.51% at the end of March 2023, registering an annual growth rate of 1.39%.
The number of wireless data subscribers will grow from 846 million at the end of March 2023 to 913 million at the end of March 2024, representing an annual growth rate of 7.93 percent.
“Furthermore, the total wireless data usage will increase from 1,60,054 PB (petabytes) in 2022-23 to 1,94,774 PB in 2023-24, at a compound annual growth rate of 21.69 per cent,” TRAI data showed.
The number of telephone subscribers in India rose to 1.199 billion from 1.172 billion at the end of March last year, registering an annual growth rate of 2.3 percent.
According to the data, “Monthly average minutes of usage (MOU) per subscriber will increase from 919 minutes in FY2022-23 to 963 minutes in FY2023-24, at a compound annual growth rate of 4.73 percent.”
