Nokia announced that it has been selected by TIM Brasil (TIM) to expand its 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) coverage to 15 Brazilian states starting in January 2025. The partnership will increase the number of municipalities with access to 5G, bringing the benefits of secure, ultrafast connectivity to a wider range of people. This expansion will also enable businesses in these regions to digitize their operations, spurring innovation and driving economic growth.
Under the agreement, Nokia will supply a range of equipment from its industry-leading 5G AirScale portfolio, including baseband, Massive MIMO radios and remote radio head products, all powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark system-on-chip technology to deliver superior coverage and capacity.
TIM will leverage Nokia’s intelligent MantaRay network management system with built-in AI capabilities to improve network monitoring and management. Nokia will also provide services such as digital deployment, optimization and technical support services.
Marco Di Costanzo, CTO of TIM Brasil, said: “This agreement marks an important milestone in our long-standing partnership with Nokia and underscores our mutual dedication to technological innovation. As 5G continues to revolutionize connectivity, we are committed to extending these advancements to more Brazilians. This will provide new services for industry and consumers and solidify TIM’s position as the leading 5G provider in Brazil based on number of locations.”
“Nokia is committed to delivering on this vision and is committed to delivering the best possible service to our customers,” said Tomi Uitto, president, Mobile Networks, Nokia. “We are excited to partner with TIM to expand their 5G network in Brazil.
