To say Sonam Kapoor’s Mumbai home is beautiful would be an understatement. The actress, who lives in a sprawling apartment with her husband Anand Ahuja and son Vayu, gave a tour of her home in a recent Architectural Digest India video and cover interview. Sharing a short clip of the celebrity’s impeccably curated, Indian-inspired home, a fan remarked that there’s just one thing in Sonam’s house that’s probably affordable: a “steel balti (bucket).” Read also: Step inside Sonam Kapoor’s stunning Mumbai home, which is a maximalist antiques store.
“I use it as a vase at home and I love it.”
The fan page shared a short video of Sonam talking about the bar’s interiors, which were decorated with ‘steel baltis’ used as vases along with a host of glass vases placed on marble and wooden tables. The caption read, “Steel baltis… the only ones you can buy from her lavish Mumbai home.”
In the video, Sonam says, “This is actually a balti, an old Indian bucket. This bucket was basically used for bathing. So, I use it as a vase in my house and I love it.”
Reactions to Sonam’s ‘Steel Bharti’ Vase
An Instagram user commented on the fan page’s video that the bucket was made of silver, not steel, writing, “If you watch the video closely you will see it’s a silver balti.” A fan responded, “Stop calling me poor in 100 languages…”
Another person said, “She (Sonam) said… that she was gifted a silver bucket and is using it as a vase.” However, some were certain that it was not a silver bucket. “No, it’s iron,” one wrote.
“It’s basically a sambal bucket.”
One person also joked about Sonam’s “balti” saying, “It’s basically a bucket of sambar served at Indian weddings,” while another responded, “Not just sambar, it’s any Indian food served at the ceremony.”
One Instagram user was not sure if they could steal Sonam’s lavish home decor ideas and wrote, “These things look good only in their (celebrities) homes… If we did it people would perceive it differently…”
Sonam talks about her ‘too grown-up’ hobbies
Sonam’s home offers a masterclass in maximalism. In an interview with AD, the actress, who was last seen in Blind (2023), opened up about her home and said, “I know some of my contemporaries might find my taste too adult, but my approach is two-fold. Firstly, I want to be an ambassador for Indian decorative arts and secondly, I wanted to emulate the home I grew up in, but with a fresh perspective.”
