Popular food and travel guide TasteAtlas recently released its list of the top 10 best and worst foods in America. The list covers a variety of foods across the country, from a general burger that topped the list of best foods to a specific doughnut-shaped burger that topped the list of worst foods. TasteAtlas recently shared the list on Instagram. However, many social media users were not impressed with the list and took to the comments section to voice their dissatisfaction. Before we dive in, let’s take a closer look at TasteAtlas’ top 10 best and worst foods.
Here are the top 10 most highly rated American foods according to TasteAtlas.
1. Hamburger (collectively)
A quintessential American dish, the hamburger typically consists of a medium-rare cooked beef patty on a fresh, lightly toasted bun, served with sliced onions and ketchup or Dijon mustard.
2. Boiled Domaine Lobster (Maine)
Cook the live lobsters by placing them in a large pot of boiling water seasoned with sea salt.
3. Etouffee (Louisiana)
Etouffee refers to a type of dish made by dipping a type of shellfish, such as shrimp or crayfish, in a rich sauce.
4. Frozen Custard (Wisconsin)
This gourmet ice cream is made with eggs, cream and sugar.
5. Carne Asada Fries, San Diego
This American-Mexican fusion dish features shoestring fries topped with carne asada, cheese, guacamole and sour cream.

6. Central Texas Style Barbecue, Texas
His style of barbecue typically involves cooking brisket low and slow over an oak wood fire.
7. Alaskan Smoked Salmon, Alaska
This salmon is typically hot smoked using traditional Native American techniques and the texture is usually silky smooth or firm.
8. Fried Chicken
Fried chicken is one of the most popular foods in Southern American cuisine.
9. Poke (Hawaii)
Poke is made with small pieces of fresh raw fish or seafood, finely chopped vegetables, herbs, seasonings and spices.
10. Lobster Roll, Maine
The lobster roll is cooked lobster meat smothered in melted butter and placed inside a long hot dog roll.

Here are the top 10 most underrated American foods:
1. Luther Burger, Georgia
Instead of a standard burger bun, it uses a sliced, sugar-dusted doughnut.
2. Ramen Burger, New York City
The ramen burger is a unique burger made of a meat patty sandwiched between two deep-fried ramen buns.
3. Frogeye Salad (Utah)
This is a combination of pasta salad and fruit salad.
4. Pizza Strips (Rhode Island)
The pizza strips have no cheese, just rich, bright red tomato sauce.
5. Cup Cheese (Pennsylvania)
Cup cheese has a soft texture and a strong, tart flavor.

6. American Lager
These are clear, pale-colored brews with neutral flavors, subtle malty aromas, and low to moderate hop bitterness.
7. Candy Corn
Candy corn is a small candy shaped like a corn kernel, flavored with honey, sugar, butter, and vanilla.
8. Spaghetti Pie (Colorado)
This delicious pie is made with spaghetti, ground beef, onion, tomato, bell pepper, butter, beaten eggs and cheese.
9. Chocolate Bacon

Moving on to reactions in the comments section, it seems the Internet disagrees with these assessments. Take a look:
“After visiting 15 countries I am still a huge fan of American food. I think it is underrated,” one user wrote. Another wrote, “Lobster is the most overrated food in the world.” A third wrote, “Frog eye salad on top of a Luthier burger makes no sense.”
“Am I the only one who likes candy corn?” one angry user asked, while another chimed in: “Pizza Stripes is a Rhode Island specialty and is amazing. Doesn’t deserve 2.5 points. Take it off your list.”
