The Olympics may be over, but here’s another piece of gold: the Monitor Audio Gold Series 6G speaker series. Building on more than 30 years of Gold Series tradition, the six models offer new cone technology, new drivers, and all-new designs.
The new metal cone technology is known as Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology (HDT). Modeled after the RDT III cone in the Hyphn and flagship Platinum Series 3G, the HDT cone uses a hexagonal pattern to break up the symmetry in the cone split. Monitor Audio claims this results in up to a 10 percent shift in frequency compared to the RST II cone in the Silver Series 7G.
The new cones also feature Monitor’s proprietary C-CAM technology, resulting in stronger cones that are less fatigue-prone, and this technology is featured across the entire range, including the new 3″ mid-range driver, 6″ bass-mid unit, and 6″ and 8″ bass drivers.
But the new series’ innovations don’t end there: there’s a new version of Monitor Audio’s MPD III (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) transducer (also used in the Hyphn and Platinum Series), which delivers more consistent, clearer and more precise high frequencies, and the crossovers have been optimised for in-room performance.
The cabinets are now more robust than ever, thanks to a top trim fitted to select models that allows the MPD III high-frequency transducers to be positioned higher to optimise cabinet edge diffraction. Monitor claims this results in consistent and accurate imaging across the frequency range. The speakers also have a new look thanks to a faux ebony veneer that has the same quality finish as the real thing, but with a lower carbon footprint.
The top of the range model is the Gold 500 6G, the Gold 300 6G is smaller and slimmer with a smaller bass driver, the Gold 100 6G is a 3-way standmount, the Gold 50 6G is a compact bookshelf and the Gold On-Wall 6G is made for wall mounting. Completing the range is the Gold C250 6G, a compact 3-way centre channel speaker.
