LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Spectrum customers in Lincoln and the surrounding area experienced an internet outage on Friday.
Spectrum said the outage began around 11 a.m. A spokesman said a fiber optic line had been down.
Channel 8 received reports of power outages in Columbus, Tecumseh, York, Fairbury and Nebraska City.
Spectrum said service was restored by 7:15 p.m.
Jim Holmquist is one of thousands of Lincoln customers who lost their internet. He also lost his cable.
“I was in the kitchen and all of a sudden I couldn’t hear the TV,” he said, “so I went to look and the screen was black.”
This isn’t a problem, he said, because spectrum outages are usually resolved quickly.
But he said it’s “a little frustrating” to be without cable TV or the internet for so long.
“It’s kind of frustrating,” Holmquist said. “We rely on technology so much that we take it for granted, and then when it’s gone, we really miss it.”
He loves using Spectrum Mobile and has no plans to switch to another provider.
But he understands why this could be a turning point for others, as it’s not a one-time event.
“This may encourage some people who are on the margins to switch to Alo or Windstream,” Holmquist said.
