America Movil-owned Claro Colombia proudly announced at the Claro Tech Summit that one million postpaid customers are already enjoying 5G service. The company made a major step forward in its 5G rollout two weeks ago, launching in six major cities: Barranquilla, Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cali, Cartagena and Medellín.
Key highlights of Claro’s 5G achievements:
- 1 million 5G users: Claro Colombia celebrates reaching one million postpaid customers actively enjoying the benefits of 5G services.
- 6% 5G data traffic: Claro reported that 6% of mobile data traffic in areas with 5G coverage is already carried by advanced 5G networks.
- Expansion plans: Claro Colombia has stated its intention to further expand its 5G coverage, aiming to reach 14 more cities in 2024 and ultimately a total of 20 cities by the end of the year.
- Prepaid 5G Packages: In an effort to democratise 5G access, Claro has announced its upcoming prepaid 5G packages that will offer faster mobile internet speeds and improved experience to a wider customer base.
- 5G Antenna Leadership: With 930 5G antennas, Claro has earned the title of the operator with the most 5G antennas, reinforcing its commitment to delivering a robust 5G network.
Business Solutions and Network Expansion:
Claro Colombia is not just focused on consumer adoption: the company also unveiled 5G-based business solutions that aim to enable companies in sectors such as energy, mining, ports, manufacturing and logistics to harness the full potential of the technology for digital transformation.
In addition to its 5G advances, Claro highlighted the extensive coverage of its 4G network, which covers 1,102 municipal capitals and about 800 small rural towns. The company has deployed more than 115,000 kilometers of fiber optics across the country, ensuring connectivity from San Andrés to Leticia.
Additionally, Claro recently deployed fiber optic infrastructure in Socorro, providing high-speed connectivity to more than 7,348 premises. This initiative complements the existing 4G and 4.5 networks in the region and demonstrates Claro’s commitment to comprehensive network expansion.
