China Mobile is moving towards 5G-Advanced (also known as 5.5G and 5G-A) networking. The Oppo Find X7 series will be the first to receive support with an update released this month. vivo has confirmed that the X Fold3 and X100 series are also getting 5.5G support in his OTA update. With Xiaomi demonstrating record-breaking speeds with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, a third company is now joining the next generation.
Ultra managed to reach speeds of 5,132Mbps, breaking the previous speed record for a 5G connection. This test was done in collaboration between China Mobile, ZTE (supplying network equipment to CM) and Qualcomm (designing his Snapdragon X75 modem inside the Xiaomi 14 Ultra).
The carrier wants to roll out its new network to more than 300 cities in China. This year, he is expected to launch 20 new 5.5G-enabled mobile phones, and adoption should increase rapidly. China Mobile predicts that in one year he will have 20 million 5.5G subscribers. For reference, the number of 5G subscribers in this country reached 850 million in February.
5G Advanced promises downlink speeds of up to 10 Gbps and uplink speeds of up to 1 Gbps, plus a 10x increase in network capacity. The additional capacity will enable 100 billion IoT devices to join the network. Latency will also be lower than his current 5G network.
