Demna Gvasalia, creative director of Balenciaga has a history of pushing the boundaries of fashion by reimagining everyday items as luxuries. This “bracelet” appears to be made of resin, eschewing traditional precious metals and gemstones. Resin is a polymer originally developed for manufacturing purposes, but was adopted into art and jewelry, particularly in the 1970s, as a rejection of conventional values.
A video of this bracelet went viral on social media. One user said, “The tape costs him $1 at the dollar store, but the logo and name he already owns cost him $0.” Another user wrote: “Living proof that people will buy any crap just because it’s made by a certain brand.” A third user commented: “At this point we’re just testing the lowest IQ.” And a fourth person chimed in: “Proof that anything can be fashionable these days.”
