SoftBank, T-Mobile, and Telia Sweden have partnered with industry leaders Ericsson, Microsoft, and Thales to deliver 5G Windows 11 PCs with zero-touch provisioning and automatic eSIM profile switching and management.
Providing secure laptop connectivity while providing a consistent experience for employees wherever they are is a prerequisite for hybrid working. Your phone will connect to 5G securely and automatically, but connecting on your laptop may take a while due to the limited availability and range of secure Wi-Fi networks. Ericsson is rewriting that narrative with Ericsson Virtual Cellular Network (EVCN), the Ericsson ONE innovation.
EVCN automates eSIM profile management, giving businesses control over ordering, downloading, and activating multiple eSIM profiles on 5G Windows 11 PCs. This will allow businesses to maintain their own virtual cellular network and quickly and securely connect an employee’s laptop to his various 5G networks. Powered by Windows 11 (OS), with eSIM profile selection and automatic network switching, 5G connectivity is automatically established based on corporate policy without end-user involvement.
By leveraging the performance and coverage of 5G networks, EVCN solutions help organizations deliver an “always on” experience and improve productivity for a hybrid workforce. Whether working from home, in a remote workspace, or traveling abroad, businesses can simply enable employees to easily activate the appropriate eSIM profile and automatically connect to their best-performing 5G network. You can be confident that you will be able to benefit from it.
The 5G laptop connectivity demonstrated in trials by Ericsson Enterprise IT, which serves Ericsson employees, was provided by SoftBank Corp. in Japan, T-Mobile in the United States and Telia in Sweden. We used Microsoft Intune Mobile Device Manager to bulk activate eSIM profile groups with local 5G connectivity provisioned according to employee demographics and data usage. Automatic network switching between Telia, T-Mobile, and SoftBank networks was successfully demonstrated on an employee’s 5G Windows 11 PCs traveling between Stockholm, New York, Seattle, and Tokyo, ensuring a seamless 5G connectivity experience provided.
The trial was expanded to include eSIM management of private 5G networks using Thales eSIM-as-a-Service (eSaaS) at Ericsson’s D-15 lab in Santa Clara. Automatic network switching between private and public 5G networks was also demonstrated on the laptop when an employee moves out of range of the private network and back to the public network.
High-performance 5G networks enable enterprise employees to securely access cloud-based services like Microsoft Teams and Office 365 using 5G-connected Windows 11 PCs at the office, at home, and on the move. . The combination of EVCN, cloud, and 5G reimagines the reality of hybrid working for enterprises and provides cost-effective and sustainable IT solutions.
Eva Rudin, Vice President, Mobile Connectivity Solutions, Thales
The adoption of private networks has increased significantly. Businesses need a simplified and secure way to connect people and devices to their 4G/5G private networks. In this trial, Thales confirmed that its ‘eSIM-as-a-Service’ technology will enable this important step by connecting eSIM-enabled laptops to Ericsson’s 5G private network in a smooth and secure manner. has been proven to promote This offer provides a seamless way for businesses to order and configure their eSIM through an intuitive web interface. It is essential for businesses to not only provide timely and reliable connectivity to their employees, but also to provide IT leaders with the tools to secure and strengthen that connectivity. 5G is the key currency that will make it easier for businesses to do this at scale. Ericsson and his T-Mobile can also work together to create a seamless, secure connectivity experience that improves employee productivity no matter where they are.
Mr. Ryuji Wakukawa (Vice President and Director of Advanced Technology Research Institute, SoftBank Corp.)
