
Nokia today announced the results of its annual Mobile Broadband Index (MBiT), which focuses on the Indian market. This revealed that since October 2022, 5G users have used approximately 3.6 times more mobile data traffic compared to his 4G. In 2023, the user consumed his 17.4 exabytes per month. His CAGR over the past five years was 26%. The launch of 5G has emerged as a key catalyst for the growth of data usage, contributing to his 15% of total data traffic in 2023.
The report highlights a paradigm shift in India’s mobile data landscape with the growing adoption of 5G technology. 5G traffic has shown significant growth in all communication circles, with Metrocircle leading the way, reaching a 20 percent share of total mobile data traffic. Enhanced 5G availability and performance, the availability of affordable devices, and the introduction of new data-intensive apps and services will accelerate his 5G growth in the future. Average monthly data traffic per user also increased by 24% year over year in 2023, reaching 24.1 gigabytes per user per month.
The rise of 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) will also be a key enabler of new services for both homes and businesses, with FWA users expected to consume an estimated 2.5 times more data than the average 5G user. India’s 5G device ecosystem is rapidly evolving, with around 17 per cent of active 4G devices, or 134 million out of a total of 796 million, now 5G-enabled.
The Nokia MBiT 2024 report also highlights that the years leading up to 2030 will bring significant changes in technology, bringing new opportunities and a digital and programmable world. Key technology themes shaping the world in 2030 include the metaverse, AI/ML, cloud, Web 3.0, and more.
