The implementation of the Paris metro system’s first fully connected 5G Grand Paris Express line is underway, with a completion date set for the end of 2025.
This means that the 15 Sud line will be one of the first Paris metro lines with end-to-end 5G connectivity.
TOTEM France has started construction to connect 16 stations of the future line, which will span 33 kilometers. Route 15 South is one of the four new lines of the Grand Paris Express, connecting the suburbs of Pont de Sèvres with Noisy Champs.
The entire project will be one of the largest civil engineering projects in Europe, with €3.7 billion invested in the network.
Deploying 5G mobile networks inside subway tunnels requires technical challenges, as subway tunnels are indoor spaces with dense crowds, high movement of people, and very thick (and therefore impenetrable) walls. challenges have arisen.
TOTEM is deploying this pooled 5G network to all carriers, working within the technical constraints of the tunnel to meet the specific mobile coverage needs of all carriers.
Thierry Papin, CEO of TOTEM France, said: “Indoor connectivity is a top priority for transport operators. The future of the Grand Paris Express by TOTEM’s operational deployment of 5G in the Line 15 South tunnel and stations is a major industrial project.
“I would like to commend the work we have done in collaboration with Société des Grands Projects to make this project a reality for the people of the Ile-de-France region.”
The Société du Grand Paris (SGP) has selected Orange Group, through tower company TOTEM, to provide connectivity to its future 15 Sud lines. TOTEM provides mobile operators with all the necessary investments to deploy their infrastructure before commercializing their networks.
