Hormuud Telecom unveils 5G network in Somalia
Mogadishu (GO) – Somalia’s leading telecommunications company. Hormuud Telecom announced its new 5G network in the country. This will significantly improve coverage and service for customers using its products in the Horn of Africa nation-building nation.
Officials said at the launch in Mogadishu that the new network is now commercially available in nine centers across the country. Hormuud Telecom is the country’s largest telecommunications provider and has earned a reputation as a ‘trustworthy’ company.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is one of the high-ranking figures in Holmud’s success story, further symbolizing the milestones the company has achieved in shaping the telecommunications industry across the region. The president praised the management team for their “invaluable” contribution to Somalia’s economy.
The company said in a statement that its 5G network enables faster and more reliable internet connections and provides more than 80% coverage. Despite the challenges, Hormuud Telecom intends to extend its success to remote parts of the country.
“This is an important development for many Somalis, including those who do not have traditional bank accounts and rely on mobile money services for business or leisure,” the statement added.
Holmoud estimates that 70% of Somalia’s population is covered by 4G networks, and this year he expects that figure to increase to 88% of the urban population and about 70% of rural areas. The statement also revealed that
Somalia has been working to transform its economy through investors, even as security challenges have been effectively addressed. Hormuud Telecom also supports nation building through various CSR activities, including education and small and medium enterprises.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is investing in security to improve the country’s fortunes as the situation develops, leading to attracting more investors. The country’s economic growth rate is expected to rise from 2.8% to 3.7% in 2022, according to World Bank data.
