Moto G Power 5G (2024) design and display
A mid-ranger with a sophisticated look

However, the design of the phone seems to have been thoughtfully updated in every way. The corners are slightly sharp, it comes in two distinctly chic color options (midnight blue and pale lilac), and most importantly, it features a striking, smooth, matte vegan leather back that repels unsightly fingerprints. .
The rest of the phone uses a plastic frame, but it feels sturdy and well-built, giving users confidence in its durability. The overall aesthetic of the phone is sleek, modern, and minimalistic.
Also, although not waterproof, the phone is designed to be water repellent, forming a barrier against moderate water exposure such as accidental spills, splashes, sweat, and light rain. This does not mean you can swim with it, as it is not designed to be submerged and has no official IP rating.

Besides the device itself, inside the box you’ll find a USB Type-C charging cable, a SIM removal tool, and a 30W charging brick, an item that rarely comes with phones these days.
The IPS LCD display with a maximum brightness of 500 nits is plenty bright for a midranger. However, it may be slightly difficult to see outdoors under direct sunlight. Full HD+ (2400 x 1080) resolution screen provides crisp text. Colors are vibrant and viewing angles are decent for an LCD screen, but it’s not an OLED screen, so that’s one of the big compromises here. The good news is that it has a variable 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling.
The bezels are what you would expect from a phone of this category. It’s not so big that you feel like you’ve stepped into another era, especially at the bottom.
The power button also functions as a fingerprint reader, which we found to be accurate in our testing. In addition to fingerprint unlock, Moto G Power 5G features face unlock as an alternative biometric security method.
Moto G Power 5G (2024) Camera
average camera at average price

The biggest improvement in terms of cameras compared to last year’s model is the secondary camera, which has been significantly improved. This time, instead of the 2MP depth/macro lens, it has an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, which can be used not only for macro photography but also for wide-angle shots and 1080p 30fps videos. On the front, there is his 16MP selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture and it can also record 1080p videos at 30 frames per second.
The camera had the most problems when trying to zoom in more than 3x, as the images tended to lose a lot of sharpness and detail. Overall image quality was OK for a smartphone camera, but not exceptional.
Low light is also a weakness for both the main lens and the ultra-wide-angle lens, and we found images taken at night to be very grainy and lacking clarity. The selfie camera can take good photos in well-lit areas, but the main camera’s night vision mode doesn’t support it.
video quality

Both rear cameras capture video at 1080p, but the main camera can do both 60 and 30 frames per second, while the ultrawide camera has the advantage of only capturing 30 fps. Video quality is not bad. It has the same weaknesses as photo mode, especially when it comes to zooming. At 6x, the video was completely corrupted and virtually unusable. The optical image stabilization was adequate for a mid-ranger, but it didn’t completely eliminate all movement from activities like walking down the street.
Moto G Power 5G (2024) performance and benchmarks
A device that provides sufficient performance for daily work
The device comes in just one configuration with 8GB of RAM, which is plenty for this price class. Motorola says it can be expanded up to 16GB by using the phone’s internal storage as virtual memory to boost the RAM.
Performance is pretty stable when I’m running a few tasks, but I found it stalled a bit when I had too many apps running and tried to switch between them. This is despite the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 processor, which is octa-core and good for gaming and multitasking. However, the device still offered decent performance overall, so it wasn’t a huge issue for me.
Performance benchmark:
As you can see in the benchmarks above, the Moto G Power 5G doesn’t have the best benchmarks, but it still performs well enough for everyday tasks. After all, benchmarks are only one piece of the puzzle when considering a device, and what really matters is actual performance.
Internal storage defaults to 128GB. However, it can be expanded up to 1TB using a microSD card. It’s important to note that in addition to the effects of a RAM boost, available storage space can also vary depending on operating system files and updates.
Moto G Power 5G (2024) Software
Other honorable mentions include the “Chop Chop” motion that turns on the flashlight and the “Twist” motion that launches the camera app. When it comes to features that don’t require gestures, I really like the ability to create folders in the app drawer for better organization and accessibility. I hope more stock launchers have this feature.
Moto G Power 5G (2024) Battery
Great battery life even when you push the limits

When we tested this device, we found that the battery performed very well in both heavy and regular use. In normal use, I was able to get about 24 hours of battery life on a single charge with only occasional checking of notifications, email, and light social media networking. All of the above, plus heavy streaming music, video, and navigation, reduced the battery life to about 8 hours on a single charge before I was forced to plug in the charger.

Moto G Power 5G (2024) overview and final verdict

The Moto G Power 5G is a solid mid-range option for those looking for a reliable device with decent performance and good battery life. With an MSRP of US$299, it’s definitely an attractive option, but it may face stiff competition from other devices in its price range.
My experience when testing this device was overall very positive, with smooth performance and impressive battery life. While we wouldn’t recommend it as a device for taking precious family photos, it can certainly get the job done in the right environment. However, if you are looking for a device that looks premium, can be used all day long, can perform daily tasks reliably, and is very affordable, then the Moto G Power 5G (2024) is your choice. I was able to get to the back.
